Filipino nurse accused of slapping patient cleared

A Filipino nurse working in an unidentified rest home has been cleared of professional misconduct in Auckland, New Zealand.

According to a report published online by NZCity, Ricardo Merilos was exonerated from the accusation that he slapped a 95-year-old dementia patient.

The online news report said Merilos arrived in New Zealand from the Philippines in 2006. However, the report did not disclose the name of the rest home where Merilos worked.

The report also cited the account of one of Merilos’ colleagues who told the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal that she saw movement and allegedly heard slaps when she went into the unidentified patient’s room. However, she admitted that she did not actually witness the alleged three or four slaps.

For his part, the Filipino nurse denied the accusation. He said the patient was resisting attempts to dress a wound.

The Tribunal decided to dismiss the charge against Merilos due to lack of evidence. – via abs-cbnNEWS.com
